Update to NZFAP and NZFAP Plus Standards

Version 8 of the New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP) Standard and Version 6 of the NZFAP Plus Standard came into effect on 1 October 2025 following their annual reviews.

NZFAP Standard

Version 8 of the New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme (NZFAP) Standard came into effect on 1 October 2025 following its annual review. Farmers are now being audited to the new Standard and will receive a copy of it in advance of the audit date.

Certain requirements have been removed to reduce duplication, which are marked as “amended” at the end of each requirement in the Standard. Several requirements have been removed from the Animal Remedy Inventory and Storage (3.4.1) and the Agrichemical Inventory (3.6.1).

There are no new requirements to the NZFAP Standard (Version 8), however the following key for audit guidance has been added: 

C = conversation 

D = documentation (document, spreadsheet, hard copy, digital app, photo etc.)

V = visual inspection

NZFAP Plus Standard (Version 6)

The New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme Plus (NZFAP Plus) has also been updated. It now runs to Version 6 following its annual review. Farmers will be audited against Version 6 from 1 October 2025 and will receive a copy of the Standard in advance of the audit date.

Several changes have been made to reduce duplication and clarify the requirements of NZFAP Plus.

The following key for audit guidance has been added:

V = visual inspection

The following requirements are new or have been expanded to include additional requirements.

• 3.6.3 and 3.6.8 Nutrient Management and Soil Health
• 3.9.5 Indigenous Biodiversity

The following requirements have been amended to provide clarity.
