Traffic management | March and April health and safety focus

Posted on Friday, 20 March 2026 under Health & Safety,

Everyone who operates a vehicle on site, walks through an area with vehicles, or works in the same area as vehicles is responsible for traffic safety.

  • Read your site traffic management plans. These are on noticeboards, or you can ask your site’s health and safety advisor. On farms and Five Star Beef these are on noticeboards, Farm Drive, and Onside.
  • Never assume a driver has seen you. Always make eye contact before crossing a work area and always walk in the marked walkways provided.
  • Always keep walkways clear so pedestrians can access them safely, and if you’re a pedestrian stick to the designated walkways.
  • Some vehicles have warnings that you need to be aware of, like strobe lights or reversing alarms.
  • Be aware of slippery or uneven surfaces, like slopes, gravel, or culverts. Coldstore entrances and exits can have ice around them so may be more slippery than you expect.
If you’re working in an area with vehicles, wear safety boots and high-vis PPE.
  • If you’re working with drivers from outside ANZCO, make sure they follow the correct site rules.
  • Always follow the speed limits for the area you’re in – speed limits are shown on signage and are in site traffic management plans.
  • Reverse your vehicle into car parks, and don’t park over walkways.
  • Always give way to pedestrians, no matter where they are walking.
  • Remember when a truck is reversing the driver cannot always see you.
  • Some of our sites have designated safe zones for drivers, so drivers should stay in these zones while their vehicles are getting loaded and unloaded.
  • Always report incidents/near misses – this allows us to investigate and put controls in place to stop an incident happening.
