Pink Shirt Day 2026
Posted on Friday, 15 May 2026 under Culture and Belonging,
Today is Pink Shirt Day, a day dedicated to promoting kindness and stopping bullying.
Bullying can take many forms, but generally it’s defined as instances of unreasonable behaviour – intimidating, humiliating, or threatening someone.
People who are bullied often feel powerless and unheard, and it can affect their mental and physical health. The Pink Shirt Day website has some actions people can take to resolve bullying behaviour and keep themselves safe.
Research shows that more than half of bullying situations (57%) stop when others intervene. If someone you know is being bullied, there are many actions you can take to help them:
- Support them – let them know they aren’t alone. Go with them to speak to a trusted person, or point them towards the Pink Shirt Day website
- Interrupt the bullying – help the person experiencing bullying to leave the situation they’re in, like asking if they want to go for a walk
- Call out the bully – let the bully know that what they’re doing is not ok
- If you don’t feel safe to step in – leave the situation, and later approach the person experiencing the bullying and let them know you saw, and ask what might help them
