March is Hearing Awareness Month
Posted on Monday, 23 March 2026 under Health & Safety,
Hearing Awareness Month is all about putting a spotlight on hearing health and raising awareness for the experiences of 880,000+ New Zealanders who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Many people with hearing loss are unaware of it. Regular hearing checks can ensure that hearing loss is identified at the earliest possible time so that you can take action to continue hearing well.
Everyone is at risk of hearing loss, although it’s most likely to occur in adults over 60, people working in noisy environments, people listening to loud music, and there are even some medications that can damage the ear.
You can also check out the National Foundation for Deaf and Hard of Hearing website for more information.
The Great Big Hearing Check!
Take part in the Great Big Hearing Check this month, run by Triton Hearing, and you could win a share of more than $12,000 in prizes.
All you need is your phone or laptop and a pair of headphones!
HearWHO
Test your own hearing!
Did you know there’s a free App called hearWHO? It’s a good way of testing your hearing in the comfort and privacy of your own surroundings and could give you a good idea of whether or not you may have a hearing problem.
Download it from the Google Play Store or the Apple Store.
