Contractor management | May and June health and safety focus

Posted on Wednesday, 21 May 2025 under Health & Safety,

This month’s health and safety focus is on contractor management. As our sites head into shutdowns, you may notice more contractors around, helping upgrade or install new equipment and machinery or carry out maintenance.

Where multiple contractors are working on the same task, or in the same place, they use the Three C’s to make sure they’re aware of what everyone is doing.

  • Consultation – they discuss the work they’re doing, how that might affect other contractors or workers, and what ongoing processes and communication will happen. At ANZCO, contractors do this by attending group toolbox talks and pre-shutdown site induction/hall talk, and having access to site maps, shutdown plans, and site-specific plans.

  • Cooperation – ANZCO and contractors share information and work together to manage and control risk and recognise hazards.

  • Coordination – making sure the systems and processes that were put in place work and adjust them if necessary

Here are some safety conversation starters you can use while we have contractors on site:

•    How long will you be working here for?
•    Do you know who your ANZCO contact is?
