World Iron Awareness Week - take the Iron vs IRON quiz!
Posted on Thursday, 16 October 2025
This week, 13-20 October, is World Iron Awareness Week.
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies worldwide, affecting an estimated 30% of people worldwide. This deficiency is particularly common in women and children, especially in New Zealand.
Iron helps to:
- Support the production and function of immune cells
- Transport oxygen to our brain
- Get energy from food
If you're low on iron, you might feel tired, have mood swings, find it hard to concentrate, or get sick often. If you're concerned, you can go to your doctor and get a blood test.
