Meet Logan Flanagan

Forklift Operator at ANZCO Foods Ashcold

Logan is a forklift operator at our storage facility Ashcold. His job involves unloading incoming goods from trucks and putting them in the coldstore, and doing ‘gather-ups’ where he collects the goods scheduled to go out on trucks, and gets them ready for loading. He's also a first aider. 

Initially he started out at ANZCO Foods Canterbury as a forklift operator and labourer on the rollers. He moved across to Ashcold as the leading hand on the night shift and stayed in that role for a year and a half, before changing to the day shift because the hours are better for his family. Before coming to ANZCO he worked at a venison processing facility in Rakaia, in their coldstore and boning room.

Since coming to ANZCO, he's been pleasantly surprised by amount of community involvement and sponsorship. For example, Logan and his two youngest went to the Canterbury Fun and Wellness Day (his oldest son was ‘too cool’ to go along) and said they had a fantastic time!

Outside of work, Logan collects rocks - mostly agates and other semi-precious gems. He knows of a few farms around Mt Somers that have creeks running through them, and contain lots of agates. Occasionally he also finds rocks on the beach too, after they've been washed down the creeks and rivers in the area. When he finds good ones, he cuts and polishes them, and while he doesn't currently sell them, he's looking at going to shows and selling them in the future. He says the thing people don't realise is that Canterbury is the best place in the country for agates - especially around the foothills and rivers - but people just don't realise they're there.

After a busy day at work, and when he's not out looking for rocks, he sits down with a cup of tea and catches up with his family - his partner, his three sons aged 16, 12, and 7, and the family's three cats.
