Meet Lana Moore
Ingredient Weigher at Green Island
Lana is an Ingredient Weigher for the Angel Bay manufacturing site in Green Island. Her role is to get the different ingredients ready for the team to make patties with the next day, helping to make sure the recipe is exactly right for the patties' iconic flavour.
There are nine different dry ingredients, like salt, that go into one batch of patties, and the team makes 42 batches of patties each day, so Lana has to prepare more than 370 bags of ingredients each day. Saturdays are the site's gluten free days, and to prevent cross-contamination from ingredients like breadcrumbs Lana has to start at 3am to make sure the ingredients are weighed up in time for the dayshift. It can be heavy work, especially for the gluten free patties as she has to weight ingredients up to 11kg at a time - but she says it's better than paying to go to a gym!
Lana also helps out in the pack room on the retail side. Retail bags with six patties get packed manually and need three people on the conveyor belt at a time, so she's happy to jump in and help cover when the team are on their breaks. In the mornings, she'll put away the laundry that gets delivered so it's ready for the day.
Before joining ANZCO, she worked at the Southland Times in Invercargill for 20 years, publishing and distributing papers six nights each week. Then she worked at Alsco doing laundry for businesses, then joined the Green Island team in the pack room moved into her current role after six months. Since coming to ANZCO she's been surprised at getting proper holidays - she wasn't able to at the Times or Alsco because newspapers always needed to go out and laundry always needed to be done - so she appreciates getting time off over Christmas and Easter.
Lana enjoys gardening, mostly growing flowers, and after a busy day at work she'll relax with a drink.
