Meet Egypt Pearce

Offal and Chiller Supervisor at Rakaia

Egypt has been part of the ANZCO Foods Rakaia team for 11 years. He joined the team when he was 17 on his father's suggestion - school just wasn't for him, and he says he's always been about making money, so he jumped at the opportunity and hasn't looked back. His mum Tina also works at Rakaia as the site's Compliance Auditor - Egypt and Tina even worked together on the chain before she began the role.

Egypt started on the slaughter floor as a labourer, then became a butcher. In mid-2024 he was offered his current role as Offal and Chiller Supervisor. His new role is good but different to what he's previously done - it's more mentally challenging as there's a lot to remember, and there's also a lot more paperwork!

He's been most surprised at how friendly everyone is at ANZCO. Working on a small site - there's around 90 employees at Rakaia - means everyone gets to know each other quite well. He says it's a good site, and a good place to work.

Outside work, he enjoys spending time with his three daughters - an eight-year-old, and five-year-old twins who aren't identical but look very similar. He enjoys playing golf, and he used to play rugby but gave it up when his kids came along because of the risk of being injured. After a busy day he might head to the gym before going home to catch up with his partner or play with the kids and the family's Jack Russell, Benny.
