ANZCO's Local Heroes: Stee Rasake

Posted on Tuesday, 26 August 2025

We're recognising ‘ANZCO's local heroes’ - people who volunteer their time to make an impact in their community. We're chatting to them about what they do, what they've learned, and their advice for anyone who wants to get involved in their community.

Today, meet Sitiveni (Stee) Rasake

Coldstores Forklift Driver at ANZCO Foods Canterbury

Sitiveni - known as Stee - is the president of the Mid Canterbury Fijian Rugby Club. He helps run the team, coordinates fundraising and organising trips for tournaments, and helps make Fijian rugby players feel at home while they're far away from home and their families.

He was inspired to help because he recognised that a lot of the team members are living in a new, unfamiliar country, and having moved to New Zealand himself, Stee understands what they're going through. He enjoys bringing people together, and gets a kick out of seeing the joy his hard work brings to the team.

His biggest takeaway as a volunteer is that we all need a community behind us in order to be successful. But his time volunteering has also made him realise how much impact we can make in people's lives by just being there to lend a hand. A highlight for him was seeing his team win their tournaments.

He's been able to work with our ANZCO Foods Canterbury site to get sponsorship for the team - new jerseys have been provided, along with a marquee for shade while they're playing.

His advice for anyone wanting to make a positive impact in the community is to do it with a good heart - do it for others, not yourself.

If anyone is keen to help out with the Fijian rugby team, contact Stee on 027 466 8816, or the team on midcanterburyfijianrugby22@gmail.com.
