An update on Ross’ project

Posted on Friday, 28 November 2025 under Latest,

Ross Hawthorne of ANZCO Foods Canterbury has almost finished planting a section of the Hakatere River trail.

He’s been clearing weeds and planting natives along the 700m section since 2022, after noticing natives in the area were being strangled by weeds. He’s planted more than 8,000 natives during this time, supported by ANZCO and Ashburton Water Zone Committee, and many volunteers.

He’s now looking to pass the baton – while he’ll be staying on to help with maintenance, he’d like someone to take over and extend the planting area. If you’re able to lend a hand, contact Ross on 028 409 8185.
