A powerhouse of goodness

ANZCO Foods beef and lamb serves as a 'power pack' of essential nutrients that contribute to optimal health as part of a balanced diet and active lifestyle. The quality of protein, zinc, B12 and iron that only beef and lamb provide plays an important part of everyday nutrition.

What are the health benefits?

Protein

Protein is an essential micronutrient that plays a fundamental role in many daily functions in the body. It is the building block for optimal health and well-being.

Micronutrients

Beef and lamb are packed with vital micronutrients such as iron, zinc, and B vitamins.

Dietary fat

Fat is an essential component of a balanced diet and contrary to popular belief, not all fats are detrimental to your health.

The basics of beef and lamb

What’s in it for you?

• Protein for your body's optimal health
• Iron, zinc and b vitamins that benefit your health and well-being
• A concentrated source of energy to help maintain a balanced diet

How much beef and lamb should I eat?

• Consume beef or lamb 3-4 times a week
• Aim for 30–40g of protein per meal
• There is about 50g of protein in 150g of cooked lean meat
• 150g steak has as much protein as 7 eggs

How to optimise iron absorption

• Eat vegies with meat to increase iron absorption
• Avoid tea or coffee immediately before and after your meal
• Include vitamin C rich foods like capsicums and broccoli

How does protein from beef and lamb affect me?

Beef and lamb are complete proteins containing all nine essential amino acids necessary for various bodily functions.

  • Provides all essential amino acids necessary that your body can’t make
  • Aids building bigger and stronger muscles and is crucial to prevent muscle loss and bone deterioration
  • Regulates our appetite, keeps you fuller for longer and takes more energy to digest than carbs or fats
  • Fuels your body and provides you with energy
  • Assists in muscle recovery and prevents breakdown of muscles

Be a pro when it comes to protein

Plant protein vs red meat protein

• You need to eat 30% more plant protein to equal the absorbable protein in red meat
• Red meat has more complete proteins providing all essential amino acids
• Lean red meat can have less calories and more nutrients than plant protein

What’s the optimal quantity?

• Aim for between 1.6 - 2.2g of protein per kg of your ideal body weight per day to help build muscle
• Children, adolescents, pregnant woman and elderly need to increase their protein to help maintain muscle mass and optimize muscle function

Micronutrients are a big deal

Vital for optimal brain function and found abundantly in red meat, micronutrients combat issues like low IQ, autism, depression, and dementia.

Zinc

Must be obtained through food - our bodies don't naturally produce zinc.

Important for:

  • A strong body and mind
  • Maintaining a strong immune system
  • Growth and development of children
  • Fertility and reproduction

b3 and b12 vitamins

Beef and lamb are one of the richest sources of b12

  • Both are essential for nourishing your body and brain
  • b12 is only found naturally in foods of animal origin and is essential for forming red blood cells and DNA
  • b3 is vital to help convert nutrients into energy, cholesterol, and DNA repair
  • b12 shields against fatigue and brain fog.

Iron-ing out the facts

More people suffer from iron deficiency than any other nutritional disorder in the world

• 14% of children under 2 are iron deficient
• 8 out of 10 toddlers miss their daily dietary iron intake
• 1 in 14 women are low in iron
• Over 33% of teenage girls don’t achieve their daily iron requirements.

Your body can use 15-25% of the iron in red meat, but only 5-12% of the iron in plants

Main roles of iron within the body:

1. Carries oxygen in our blood
2. Ensures a healthy immune system to defend against infection and disease
3. Prevents fatigue and brain fog
4. Prevents oxidative stress in the brain.
