Bovogen’s new ethanol tank

Bovogen Biologicals has recently installed a new ethanol storage system at its Melbourne site, with final commissioning and control system wiring now underway.

This installation is the last step in a wider project to improve health and safety around ethanol, which included reviewing PPE to ensure ethanol-safe materials are used and changing the layout of storage areas to keep incompatible materials separate.

Ethanol is used in BSA (albumin) manufacturing as part of the initial purification process. The new tank has two layers of protection designed to reduce the risk of the ethanol sparking and also removes the need to move the chemical between buildings.

Contract engineer Zeke Yerak was brought on to provide expert advice and lead the installation, and did a great job supporting the team throughout the project.
